Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state :-
(a) The current status of the 100 per cent electrification of all broad-gauge routes initiative;
(b) The estimated emission reduction achieved already through this shift and the cost savings which have arisen from such electrification;
(c) Whether Government has set up solar power generation facilities in vacant railway land as proposed previously, if so, the details thereof; and
(d) The details of all power procurement routes for Indian Railways to achieve the set target of 20 GW renewable energy by 2030?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.782 BY SHRI SUSHIL KUMAR MODI ANSWERED IN RAJYA SABHA ON 03.12.2021 REGARDING 100 PER CENT ELECTRIFICATION AT ALL BROAD – GAUGE ROUTES
(a) As on 01.04.2021, out of 64,689 BG Route Kilometer (RKM), 45,881 RKM (71%) had been electrified. Electrification works on balance routes are under different stages of execution and planned for completion on mission mode in phased manner.
(b) Indian Railways has taken pro-active action to reduce emission due to diesel locomotives by way of enhanced electrification of Broad Gauge (BG) network of Indian Railway. This has resulted in reduced operation of Diesel Locomotives thereby effecting reduced carbon emission owing to reduction in diesel consumption. The estimated reduction in emission on account of reduction in diesel fuel consumption on year to year basis, is expected to be 9.99 lakh tone of CO2 for the FY 2019-20 and 25.48 lakh tonne of CO2 for the FY 2020-21.
(c) Indian Railways has set up solar power plants on vacant Railway Land. Details are as follows:-
1.7 Mega Watt (MW) capacity solar plant Bina.
2 Mega Watt (MW) capacity solar plant in Diwana
3 Mega Watt (MW) capacity solar plant at Modern Coach Factory, Raibareilly.
(d) Indian Railway will take up renewable power procurement through various modes including Solar, Wind and Round the Clock (RTC)
