SCR’s second Vande Bharat train service is coming up between Secunderabad – Tirupati Many people have started showing interest as it greatly reduces the travel time. In this case, the central government is planning to introduce the Vande Bharat train service to connect the cities of Secunderabad and Tirupati. Indian Railways is expected to announce the train numbers, timings, Halts, Composition of trains and Ticket Price of Secunderabad – Tirupati Vande Bharat Express soon. Till date various cities are connected by 10 Vande Bharat trains (New Delhi – Varanasi, New Delhi – Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, New Delhi – Amb Andaura, Mumbai Central – Gandhi Nagar, Mysore – Chennai, Nagpur – Bilaspur, Howrah – New Jalpaiguri, Secunderabad – Visakhapatnam, Mumbai CSMT – Sainagar Shirdi, Mumbai – Solapur routes).

Shri Narendra Modi. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India will be visiting Secunderabad, Telangana on 08th April 2023. On this occasion, the Hon’ble Prime Minister will flag-off the Vande Bharat Express from Secunderabad Tirupati from Secunderabad Railway Station. This is second Vande Bharat Express to be started from Telangana within a short span of 3 months. The train will reduce the travel time between the two cities by almost three and half hours and will be particularly beneficial for pilgrim passengers of both the Telugu states. The train will connect IT City, Hyderabad with the Abode of Lord Venkateswara, Tirupati with India’s indigenous semi-high speed train.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister will also flag-off 13 new MMTS services in the suburban section of Hyderabad – Secunderabad twin city region. The Multi-Modal Transport Service (MMTS) provide the commuters in the twin city region with a fast, convenient and comfortable travel option. The new services take these services to new sections of the twin city region and provide them with the most cost effective, safe and comfortable travel facility for the daily commuters, students, office goers, etc.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister will also be dedicating doubling and electrification of Secunderabad Mahabubnagar project to the nation. The project stretching for a distance of Rs. 85.24 kms has been completed at a cost of nearly Rs. 1,410 crores. The project involved 9 major bridges, 152 minor bridges along with elimination of 17 level crossing gates to enhance safety of both road users and train operation. The completion of the project decongests this saturated section enhancing the possibility of introduction of both passenger and freight trains. The project will provide seamless connectivity and assist in enhancing the average speed of trains. The project will also aid in the socio-economic development of people in the region.

Further, Shri Narendra Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station at a cost of Rs. 720 crores. The station which is the largest in terms of passenger movement in Telangana will undergo a massive makeover with World-class amenities and aesthetically designed Iconic station building. The station is being redeveloped to act as a new City Centre for generating business opportunities and revenue generation for the people. The redeveloped station would be having Double-level Spacious Roof Plaza with all passenger amenities at one place along with spaces for retail, cafeterias, recreational facilities, segregation of arrival/departure of Passengers, lifts, escalators, Travelators, multilevel car parking and multimodal connectivity for providing seamless transfer of passenger from rail to other modes among others.

Vande Bharat Express 2.0 Features

New and improved Vande Bharat 2.0 trains with enhanced safety features, better ride index and passenger amenities have been introduced

In an effort to boost domestic production, IR has invited bids to establish facilities for manufacturing and supply of about 15,40,000 wheels of different rolling stock

The new and improved Vande Bharat Ver 2.0 trains, with enhanced safety features, better ride index and passenger amenities, have been introduced after detailed trials, performance and safety testing of the train and its sub-systems. The following tests were conducted by Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) / Lucknow:-

1. Oscillation trials @ 115 kmph on mainline tracks and at 180kmph on Rajdhani Tracks.
2. Emergency Braking Distance Trials at 160 kmph and performance testing of Brake Systems.
3. Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) / Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and Pacemaker Tests.
4. Noise and vibration tests.
5. Tests on Propulsion and Train Control Systems.
6. Fire and smoke detection tests.
7. Clearance by Electrical Inspector General to Government of India.
8. Detailed safety inspection and running trial run at 180 kmph by Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) / Ministry of Civil Aviation.
9. Subsequent to mandatory safety and operation trial of the prototype train, Ministry of Railways has issued sanction for introduction of Vande Bharat Train set with new design propulsion system and bogies over Indian Railways.

Integral Chief Factory (ICF) / Chennai has already turned out three (3) rakes of new and improved version of Vande Bharat Ver.2 trains till November 2022, in addition to two (2) Vande Bharat Trains in service since 2019. Regular production of Vande Bharat Ver.2 has started from ICF from September 2022.

Production of thirty-five (35) rakes in coach production programme 2022-23 and sixty seven (67) rakes in coach production programme 2023-24 have been issued. However, actual turnout depends on supply chain, which is developing rapidly.

In an effort to boost domestic production of wheels, a tender has been floated for inviting bids from prospective vendors to establish facilities for manufacturing and supply of about 15,40,000 wheels of different rolling stock to the Railways over the period of 20 years. Tender has been floated under Make-In-India wherein only class-1 loco suppliers with local content more than 60% are eligible. The tender is due to be opened on 24.01.2023.

The first rake of new and improved version of Vande Bharat Ver 2.0 was inaugurated on 30.09.2022 from Gandhinagar Capital to Mumbai Central in Western Railway and is running in regular service since 01.10.2022. An incidence of hit by cattle on 06.10.2022 was reported between Gairatpur and Vatva division. The incidence caused minor damage to Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) coupler cover with brackets of Coach No. 226430 / DTC. The train journey was completed without any issue further. The FRP coupler cover with brackets was repaired in Mumbai Central (MMCT) depot without affecting any disruption in train services onwards.
